IDEA Teacher Spotlight: Cristal Chapa Reyes
Cristal Chapa Reyes, a Math teacher at IDEA Academy Edinburg, sat down to tell us about her experience being a part of the IDEA Team & Family as both an educator and a proud parent of an IDEA scholar. Read about her experience below!
I was drawn to apply to work at IDEA after learning about the amazing record of success the public charter school was experiencing. Their student achievement rates, as well as the fact that nearly 100% of IDEA graduates enroll in higher-education organizations, appealed to me, as I want to help make a difference where I work.
Of course, it wasn’t just the news I’d heard, or the statistics I’d read that drew me to IDEA. It was a personal connection, with my own kids.
I was compelled to join IDEA’s Team & Family when I saw the impact they were making on my own children.
I have had both of my sons attend IDEA Academy Edinburg since kindergarten. I couldn’t help but to be astonished at the rate at which they learned to read, as well as their arithmetic abilities. I noticed very early on that IDEA was educating my children in a very well-rounded manner, and that is very important to me.
I am excited to come to work every day because I know that IDEA Public Schools is making a difference in the lives of each and every scholar. IDEA cares about their teachers and their growth. I have experienced various rewards and recognition in return for my efforts; therefore, I feel valued and supported.
I believe my ten previous years of teaching experience, which ranges from Kindergarten to 5th grade, has set a solid foundation for my ability to teach the students at IDEA Public Schools. Being able to differentiate between academic learning levels ensures student success.
I look forward to many more years with IDEA Public Schools!
