Executive Director, Tampa Bay
Nate began his career in education as a middle school math and special education teacher with Donna Independent School District. During his third year at D.M. “Dora” Sauceda Middle School, he was selected as an eighth-grade team leader, leading his students to achieve exemplary results across the four content areas.
Soon after, Nate worked at IDEA College Preparatory San Juan, where he served as a teacher, Assistant Principal of Instruction, and Principal in Residence. He was named Teacher of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year, and under his leadership, the Math Department piloted “flipped” classrooms and earned performance distinctions from TEA in 2013 and 2014.
Prior to leading the Montopolis Bulldogs, Nate served as founding Principal of IDEA Weslaco Pike College Preparatory. In both years, the school earned the state’s highest rating as well as all distinctions for which it was eligible. He also led his team of teachers and leaders to create opportunities for students not previously offered at IDEA, including the Mavs Book Bus literacy project, IDEA’s first tennis team, and new programming such as seventh grade Algebra I.
Nate is a proud Cornell University graduate, and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbia. He strongly believes in holding all students to high expectations, and is focused on finding innovative programming that closes the achievement gap for all students. His dedication to our core mission and values, coupled with his ability to transform school districts made him the ideal choice to serve as IDEA Tampa Bay’s Executive Director and fearless leader.
