Nine IDEA Schools Ranked Among “America’s Healthiest Schools”

The dynamic wave of wellness and nutrition at IDEA Public Schools known as the Healthy Kids Here initiative is in its fifth year and is making another splash nationwide. Recently, nine IDEA schools made the Alliance for a Healthier Generations list of “America's Healthiest Schools” after winning the prestigious National Healthy Schools Award for their hard work in creating a healthier school environment.

Awarded schools met best practice criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and met the Healthy Schools Program Framework of Best Practice Criteria. Applicants were scored based on the following categories:  

  • School health and safety policies and environment
  • Health education
  • Physical education and other physical activity programs
  • Nutrition services
  • Health promotion for staff
  • Family and community involvement

The nine schools were given either a bronze, silver and gold award for their achievements. The following IDEA schools were awarded:

IDEA Brackenridge College Prep

Silver Level:

IDEA Mays College Prep

Bronze Level:

IDEA Brackenridge Academy

IDEA Mays Academy

IDEA Carver Academy

IDEA Judson Academy

IDEA San Juan Academy

IDEA Judson College Prep

IDEA Rundberg College Prep
