IDEA Quest Student Valery Tobias Wins State Championship in Track and Field

IDEA Public Schools is so proud of our new state gold medal recipient in the Class 3A girls 800 meter run – Valery Tobias, a junior at IDEA Quest College Preparatory!

Valery competed this past Saturday in Austin, Texas, at the UIL Track and Field State meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium and took first place in the event.

Nate Kotisso, writer for The Monitor, was on site during the event and has this to say about the thrilling race:

“Through the first 400 meters, Tobias ran with the pack as Pottsboro’s Olivia Zint began to create some separation between herself and her competitors. Heading into the final 100, Tobias turned on the speed as Zint began to decelerate. Tobias eventually passed Zint to take first with a time of 2:13.08, a new personal record.”

Beyond just a personal best, Valery’s time was also only .02 seconds from breaking the state record.  The gold medal win at the UIL state meet is the second victory in two years for Valery. As a sophomore, she won gold in the 800 run at state, as well, with her previous best coming in at 2:16.86.

Congratulations to an IDEA state champion, Valery Tobias!
