IDEA Celebrates Health and Wellness with 5K Events in The Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio
Spring is 5K time at IDEA Public Schools!
IDEA hosted its annual 5K run, walk and healthy living exposition in the Rio Grande Valley on March 25th and San Antonio on April 1st. Students, staff, families, and members of the community came out in both regions to show their support for IDEA and help build awareness of the importance of health and wellness.
The Rio Grande Valley 5K was held at Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco, Texas, with a crowd of more 600 people in attendance.
“The 5K Healthy & Living Expo 2017 was amazing,” said Norma Cruz, IDEA’s Director of Benefits & HQ Property. “It was great to see our Team & Family, students, and community united for a purpose!”
San Antonio hosted its first IDEA 5K at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Park, where more than 300 people participated. A special shout out to IDEA Carver, who had the most registered participants at the San Antonio event. As part of the healthy living expositions at both events, the IDEA Childhood Nutrition Program made fresh fruit smoothies, powered by the strong legs of volunteers who hopped on the smoothie bike. Additionally, members of the IDEA farming team sold fresh, organic produce straight from the farms and gardens at IDEA schools.
Participants ranged in ages and consisted of students, family and staff from campuses across the network, including IDEA families and staff from Austin, Texas who showed their support and raced for a great cause.
It was another fantastic year for IDEA’s annual 5K run, walk, and healthy living expo. Funds raised from both 5K events will directly benefit IDEA scholars. Be sure to check out IDEA’s Instagram and Facebook for more 5K news and photos!
