IDEA Campuses Spread Holiday Cheer

With the holiday season in full swing, IDEA campuses across the organization are spreading joy to the community, and helping those in need, through fundraisers, food drives, and giving initiatives.

You too can spread some IDEA holiday cheer by donating to IDEA scholars!  Your gift will directly help an IDEA graduate on the road to and through college.

“Toys for Tots” at IDEA North Mission

IDEA North Mission Academy and College Preparatory, staff and students alike are buzzing with excitement as they participate in “Toys for Tots,” a campus toy drive that’s already collected 497 toys in two weeks!  These toys, donated by students and staff at IDEA North Mission, will be used to ensure children in the community receive a gift during the holidays.

On December 23, IDEA North Mission students and staff will travel around the community in school buses, distributing all collected toys to pre-selected families in need and spreading some holiday cheer.  It’s an event that brings all members of the IDEA North Mission campus together—bus drivers, teachers, principals, and of course—students and families.

Marissa Flores, receptionist at IDEA North Mission, noted that Academic Counselor, Patricia Mercado’s, drive and passion to aid the community has been an important factor in the success of “Toys for Tots.”  Patricia’s fostering spirit has spread across the campus Team & Family in the mission to help those in need.  “We hope ‘Toys for Tots’ can bring a little joy to the families in our community who’ve recently immigrated here and are living in poverty,” said Marissa, who has organized and managed several IDEA holiday fundraisers on different campuses. “IDEA wants to help our community in any way we can.”

“Secret Angels” at IDEA Pharr

IDEA Academy and College Preparatory Pharr partners with members of IDEA Headquarters to sponsor students in need through “Secret Angels.”  IDEA Pharr Assistant Principal of Operations, Claudia Martinez, leads this collaboration with IDEA HQ staff in Weslaco to ensure pre-selected students at IDEA Pharr receive gifts during the holidays.

This program is a great way for IDEA employees, who may not interact with students daily at a campus, to “adopt” a student and brighten their holiday season.  The giving spirt has caught on at the home of the Lions, as campus staff have also elected to participate in “Secret Angels.” It has turned into a holiday tradition at IDEA Pharr, and the event is one of the many ways staff demonstrate their loving commitment to their bright, budding scholars.

IDEA North Mission, IDEA Pharr and all of IDEA Public Schools cherish the special bond we foster between staff, students, and the community.
