IDEA Allan Academy Partners with Waste Connections to Surprise Students with Holiday Gifts

On Friday, December 15, 50 students at IDEA Allan Academy in Austin, Texas were surprised with a holiday present at school—a brand new bike!

IDEA Allan Academy partnered with Waste Connections, a recycling and disposal service in Austin, Texas, to build 50 bikes and give them out to students at school.  IDEA Allan Academy Principal, Disha Jain, and other staff members visited Waste Connections to help construct the bikes the week before giving them out to students.

There were smiles abound on the afternoon of the 15th as students walked into the gym and were surprised to see a brand-new bike waiting for them.

“Our students are going to have that much of a better holiday thanks to Waste Connections,” said Disha.  “We are so thankful for their generosity.”

When asked how the 50 students were selected, Disha noted: “First we looked at students who have had perfect attendance since the beginning of the school year.  Then, we made the decision based on attitude, commitment to working hard, and academics.”

Daniela Bernal, a 5th grader at IDEA Allan Academy and current Word Master, was so happy to receive this gift from Waste Connections.

“I’m really excited to receive this bike and can’t wait to ride it,” she said.  “I think I was a recipient because of how hard I’ve worked this year and because of my good grades.”

Thank you, Waste Connections, for spreading holiday cheer.

On behalf of all of IDEA, we want to wish our blog readers Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
