Construction of New IDEA San Antonio Schools Nears Completion

Three brand-new IDEA campuses will be opening in San Antonio, Texas this fall to serve more students in the Alamo city—IDEA Ewing Hallsell, IDEA Harvey E. Najim, and IDEA Brackenridge

As you may have heard in recent news, high schools within the IDEA network were ranked among the most challenging schools in the nation by The Washington Post and best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.  While our organization is making great strides to provide a rigorous, high-quality education to children across Texas, we know there is more work to be done.  A great Pre-K through 12th grade education remains in high demand.  To reach more students, we need more teachers, more principals, and of course, more schools!

Thanks to generous support from local nonprofit organizations in the San Antonio area, IDEA San Antonio’s three newest campuses are well on their way to being ready for the 2017-2018 school year beginning this August.  “Teachers can expect to be decorating classrooms by August 7,” said Joe Vela, Director of Construction at IDEA Public Schools.  “Both IDEA Harvey E. Najim and IDEA Brackenridge are eighty percent complete, and IDEA Ewing Halsell is at eighty-five percent completion.”

As all three campuses near the final stages of construction, Joe’s team, as well as veteran construction companies well-versed in the IDEA school model, are now finalizing the interior of the buildings—balancing air conditioners, finishing installation of all flooring, and ensuring all classrooms, cafeterias, offices, and gymnasiums are ready for students and staff in a few short months.

San Antonio-based Kencon Constructors Inc. is leading construction of both IDEA Brackenridge and IDEA Harvey E. Najim campuses, while IDEA Ewing Halsell is being constructed by D. Wilson Construction, a company with central offices in both the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio.  Both companies boast multiple decades of construction experience and have worked with IDEA Public Schools in the past.

A high-quality education starts with great teachers, eager students, and a safe school conducive to learning.  Limited spots are available at IDEA San Antonio’s newest, state-of-the-art campuses, and there is sure to be a school near you.  Enroll your child on the road to and through college today.
