Although IDEA Public Schools is a charter school open to the public, the funding received by IDEA from the state is considerably less than a traditional public school. In addition, charter schools do not receive state facility funding. As a result, IDEA must turn to private dollars from the philanthropic arena to help support programs and expansion plans. One of the unique components of attending an IDEA Public School is the College Field Lesson Program in which students visit college campuses around the nation on a yearly basis. Although IDEA Public Schools prepares our students for college, once they arrive on campus, other challenges may arise. In particular, a student may not receive enough (or any) financial aid or he/she cannot afford the plane ticket to get to college to start the semester, textbook or living arrangements. As IDEA Public Schools expands to 22 schools across the Rio Grande Valley, we will have more high school graduates needing financial assistance to pay for college. Via the IDEA University Scholarship fund, scholarships will be awarded to outstanding and dedicated individuals who exemplify the IDEA motto of No Excuses! and are committed to graduating with a 4-year college degree. Special consideration will be given to those IDEA graduates in need of financial assistance or who show intention of returning to the Rio Grande Valley and contributing back to the community. At IDEA Public Schools, a school library is a vital instrument in the education process of the students. At the forefront of IDEA's college readiness preparation is an unyielding commitment to provide a strong literacy foundation that is then nurtured throughout the students' academic years. IDEA school libraries serve an entire campus of students in grades PreK- 12, requiring a large breadth of resources to meet the needs of both primary and secondary students.
