IDEA Public Schools to Provide Free Meals to RGV Students this Summer

WESLACO, TX (June 7, 2010) – IDEA Public Schools is providing free breakfast and lunch to all children this summer as part of their Summer Nutrition Program.

“Many children in our communities depend on the meals served during the school year, and when summer comes, they may not get the food they need,” said Will Garcia, IDEA Public Schools Director of Child Nutrition. “That’s why IDEA Public Schools is partnering with the Texas Department of Agriculture to feed children this summer.”

Breakfast will be distributed from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to children, up to 18 years of age, at three IDEA campuses: IDEA Donna located at 401 S. First St. in Donna; IDEA Frontier located at 2800 S. Dakota Ave. in Brownsville; and IDEA Quest located at 14001 N. Rooth Rd. in Edinburg. The service is open to all children, regardless of where the child attends school.

IDEA Frontier in Brownsville will serve until July 30, and the rest of the campuses mentioned will serve until July 2.

The Texas Department of Agriculture Summer Nutrition Program is offered statewide by local sponsors who operate sites where children up to 18 years-old can get meals at no charge, according to the program’s website.
